Hey so, just a little pro tip for fanfic writers.
If you have to over exaggerate the flaws of a canon character you deem annoying in order to villainize them in service of propping up y/n/your oc, then y/n/your oc has bad writing.
It drives me up a wall when writers take canon characters who are like slightly annoying or poorly written or whatever, but instead of taking the time and expanding upon their characters in canon, they turn them into a cartoonishly evil monster. I’ve noticed it occurs with primarily canon female characters too, which is it’s whole other can of worms
It’s happened to Katara from ATLA (who’s writing is actually near perfect and never did anything wrong so idk wtf people are on about), it’s happened to Amy in Sonic, it’s happened to April O’ Neil in TMNT 2012. Like it’s fine to think a character is annoying, but can we just be normal about it ffs

@-stxrrynights- Yeah and the whole plot with the army literally only existed to force El to "die" while it didn't have any consequences for any of the characters which is so incredibly stupid because there is no way the government would just let everyone go living their ordinary lives after what they've done
@YosiDusk dude I couldn’t even watch it because I was so mad about her. She was my favorite characters and one of the primary reasons for why I watched the show. It was even more bullshit because it wasn’t even a point where like it was just the way things had to be because the environment was so dangerous, as the show has made excuses over and over again for characters to survive (i.e. Hopper, Steve). So for them to decide that El was gonna be the only one with an ambiguous fate after the show made a point over and over again to say she deserves better is so stupid and disgusting. Even moreso that it was on the basis of treating her like some half-assed “metaphor for childhood magic” when 1. She is her own character and 2. If they really wanted that, they could have just had her lose her powers in the end
