            A voice spoke from the darkest corner in the room, a chill passing through the breeze with a soft but cold voice, “Only those who are permitted in my presence shall see me. The true me is buried deep within my solitude. A shadow is not such a bad place to stay, as staying hidden has its advantages. Give me a reason to slip from the darkness and I shall consider leaving my silent abode.” 
            
            It was then quiet, as if the time had suddenly stopped and the wind froze. The trees outside the window had stopped swaying. The voice seemed to have controlled the environment in more ways than one, making even the Earth pause for its breath.

            It was a long work week and Julia had a long day. The office had to work on a new case and she was new to the office, so that meant a lot of catching up to do. Though, there was a man who kept showing up in these cases and around the streets wherever she went. Something about him was pulling at her but also alarming. As she walked home, she couldn’t help but feel eyes on her. When he got close, she’d run the other way and not give him a moment of her time. It felt as though he was a haunting past love, but it was all too surreal. She picked up the pace and swerved across streets but she stopped by her house, looking around to find whatever was hunting her, but as her heart beat with fear…it was also excited for a chase.
