Don't you love it when you are struggling a ton to actually write the true backstory of a character that only has an established love of two things; rights for people who deserve them, and men (because..gay)? How am I supposed to bring up the subject of them doing something they enjoy and then, consequently, getting bit by a radioactive spider in a 'normal' way?? First, it was a club. Second, it was a museum. (Where it took place.) The boy needs interests, guys. But how do I do it, and what should they be? For reference, he's a stoic, unromantic type that has no desire to mingle or make any friends.
