T.D. Flowers (BlackPearl), author of the Urban Christian Fiction novel "Many Roads," first discovered her niche'for writing poetry and short stories at the age of 15. BlackPearl, later went on to college at Kent State University located in Kent, Ohio. Soon after enrollment, BlackPearl began working as a columnist and Kuumba Editor on the staff of Uhuru Magazine, a Kent State publication. BlackPearl was an employee on the staff for three consecutive semesters and was awarded the Robert G. McGruder Award for Advancing Diversity in Student Media for an article entitled, "Fruition of a Dream, the Prophecy Foretold" which compared and contrasted the prognosis of Martin Luther King Jr.'s dream to the ills of modern day society. BlackPearl also worked as a writer on the staff of Artemis Woman's Magazine, also a Kent State publication,
Flowers is also a local Spoken Word performance poet affectionately know as, BlackPearl in her hometown of Akron, Ohio where she and a business partner ran a venue called Poetic Flavor. BlackPearl is well known for her wisdom, soulful and sassy delivery. In 2007, she published a collection of poems entitled, "The heart of a BlackPearl." In November of 2015, BlackPearl published her first novel, "Many Roads." It is available both at Barnes & Noble and on the Amazon website.
