Hello everyone!
I hope everyone has had an amazing day/weekend, and that you’re blessed and not stressed! I have a quick announcement (mainly for everyone who’ve been supporting me!).
As I’m growing as an artist, I’m coming to the realization of what’s for me, and what’s not. And as far as I am right now, I think it’s best to re-establish expectations so I don’t pass as fraud (I may be dramatic as hell, I know. But bear with me). I am not going to write any detailed smut anymore. Ever since I’ve started my writing journey/career, I’ve included smut in my stories because I noticed that it’s a crowd pleaser and it does garner reads. But if I’m being fully honest, I don’t like writing it. Not that there’s anything wrong with it, it’s just it something I necessarily enjoy. I love writing intimacy, and sexy moments but the full detailed coitus drains me in ways that make me starting to hate it.
And with the stories I write, I feel smut isn’t needed and add a layer that’s not needed at all. I’m more of an emotion shaker—I love making people hearts drop and drawing smiles and tears. That’s why I write, and that’s what I wanna continue to do without having to write sex interactions from A to B to Z. Now, like I said, there will be grown people shit (of course) but I won’t go past the poetic aspect. That’s just not for me.
ALSO, I’d like to make it clear that I love writers who write explicit scenes and actually enjoy it! Y’all do an amazing job, but if I’m also being honest, most of the times I just be skimming the explicit scenes lmaoo. I’ll read a book cause I love it and not really care for the smut (that’s how I found out that I don’t necessarily like it).

@7inchesin if you lead with smut, you’ll get that “i only came here for that and now im gone” from readers every single time. That’s where a few writers go wrong. Im no expert but ive noticed it across the board. Smut be in chapters 1-3 and there’s no substance lol. Like who are these people im reading about? Can we learn them? If you lead with smut, you have to know how to build a foundation around it and bring readers back to the purpose of the plot and character development. That’s why there needs to be balance or don’t include any at all if the story doesn’t truly require it. Bc not every book needs it in order to be great. It tends to make it lackluster. And yes i agree, it create unnecessary word count. Hate it. If i could have it my way, Bleu Brothers wouldn’t have smut at all but bc im writing perspectives of two brothers, one is hypersexual ( hint hint lol) and the other is hypo for reasons you already know. But still get to stay the course of what the book is about and not lose my readers in the process. Overall, im glad to see what you do while removing that altogether for certain stories.
