I don't really get the appeal of power fantasy. The worldbuilding is usually just making the MC the "chosen whatever" and the characters are usually not well fleshed out or interesting, especially the MC. One I really don't get why so many people like is solo leveling. I read like 80 chapters or so (since I was told it got better) and honestly, I kinda really hate it. The art is great, the characters are usually interesting concepts/at first but then it falls into "hey every other female character needs to have a crush on our MC" Power fantasies with more of a comedy aspect, like Dungeon cleaner? I can't remember the name right now but it's really good and silly. I don't usually like misunderstandings but when it's "oh I see you totally differently then how you actually are!" It's really funny.
@ACuriousStoryteller have you tried reading kill the hero? It's good, well for me. I dunno if you'll find it amusing :0
I actually like the first few chapters of solo leveling more. Once a character gets too op (yeah I know he's some sort of chosen one, it's part of the problem) also, if a character is so important then it feels like there's no steaks and it's not like characters can die because our protagonist is awesome! Also, I have a huge problem with Unordinary. It's not bad, I really liked it-until they made their morally grey character go on a stupid revenge whatever. Like-don't give the guy fucking powers? It was really interesting before that? The moral logistics of that was incredibly fun!

Good horror hits different. This might just be my opinion but I feel like horror needs to ask the viewer/reader something. It kinda needs to be psychological instead of just fucking jump scares. Sure, a loud noise can make someone flinch, but it doesn't make the horror memorable. Also shoving a bunch of lore doesn't make the horror good. It just makes it over complicated usually. If a horror series has a theme of what makes it horrible, then it instantly becomes more memorable. One example is a horror about how horrible people can be in extreme circumstances. Sure, it might have fantasy monsters or something, but good writing needs to make us attached to someone or something. Also horror doesn't need to be blood and gore everywhere, I'd count Hollow Knight as semi-horror and it's art style is cute. It's mostly the world and how it feels that makes it terrifying.
@ShaerriSagacious Yeah-like it's horror, it needs to leave some lasting effect. Take Hollow Knight. You get attached to the characters, you get mad at what some characters did/do. You feel emotion. Also, horror does not have to be a tragedy. Sure it usually is, but a good horror I've watched is the show Z Nation (it's a zombie show, surprise) but it's not just a zombie show, it's kind of a commentary about society as well. Sure, in Z Nation the zombies are horrible and kill a lot of characters, but it's the humans that make it worse. The humans we see. Character development happens, it's not just a camera we see through. Which is kinda why time travel is such a meh thing for me, as well as system stories (don't get me wrong I love them both, as well as reincarnation stories) but like-the existential dread. Of living forever, meeting people and having them all die, over and over and over again. That would do something to a person's psyche.
@ACuriousStoryteller That's something I've been asking myself. Late night horror movies are a good example. All the movie includes is a shít tonn of jumpscares. At this point, I can actually predict what's going to happen in the movie because, plot? What's that? "Oh, I bet there's someone behind her," "Look at the ceiling, you idiot,," and so on. It's hard to find a movie that DOESN'T just focus on blood, blood, red, jumscare, ha! Got you idiot and instead on ACTUAL mystery. Ironically, it's the gore that snuggles a place in our mind. At the corner. There is a NEED for a *real* horror. Like those which keep at the edge of your seat, those with scares and mystery. The ones that keep you guessing, asking. And also the ones to keep you awake,
Man, ever be thinking about the hypothetical repercussions of all chickens exploding while giving and someone asks you if you're okay? Someone once came up to me and asked if I was depressed since I looked so sad....I don't think they realized that I was struggling not to laugh lol
I have an idea for a story, idk if I'll do it. Why I'll try my best. I've recently been working more on my art which is going pretty well.
@ShaerriSagacious The problem is that I plan out the plot and then get demotivated qwp
@ACuriousStoryteller You should, but plan out the plot first since us writers are prone to dropping stories TT
My goal for the new month is actually writing more than 5 chapters of a story....hopefully it goes well.
*coughcough* y'all should expect a new chapter for one of my novels soonish, got (as of now) about 400~500 words.
Haha, hey guys, my birthday is officially to tomorrow. Welp-one year older, one year closer to death and hopefully better art.
@JoshuaPease1 @ShaerriSagacious Guys-my birthday is tomorrow lol, but thanks!
Question for y'all, do you think my writing is good? Or like what do you guys like about it? I'm curious.
Ah, Discovery. The worst Star trek. Michael Burnham is a shitty piece of shit who's a Mary Sue and it's fucking obvious (and somewhat ironic considering where the term came from) she had to retcon canon because she's that amazing. Character arcs are good (Saru is an amazing character) but seriously, she has no "oh I have done something wrong" it's "I had to do this to fix insert thing" I fucking hate her-has anyone watched Discovery? Personally Lower decks is my favorite but even compared to strange new worlds, it's bad.
Even a character that died had to be brought back so that she'd be happy, it sucks.
