Writing has always been a fairly important part of my life. I would say I’m a pretty good writer, but I do have my setbacks. I tend to have a slower pace when it comes to writing, sometimes to the point where the people who are awaiting it become annoyed. I’ll have to admit, I also find my slow pace tedious. It becomes too stressful at times.

However, my composition and quality are usually at its finest, and that is what really matters when I write. I would say my writing is the process of cooking or baking something new. Cooking something new usually takes many instances of trial-and-error to get it perfect, and that directly alludes to my writing process.

Cooking also requires many steps to be done, and in the correct order. This also supports the metaphor I am trying to portray here. Many steps and processes are necessary in order to polish my writing and to make my stories worth reading. These steps include, but are not limited to: A complete outline, prewriting, drafting, revising, polishing, editing, and reviewing.

If someone is cooking food for you, you want it to taste good, right? The same goes for a book. I find it hard to persuade myself that someone out there is going to enjoy my writing. If I can’t, then it probably isn’t good enough. The best feeling about being a writer is the feeling of accomplishment when they finish those last few touches onto their work, or when I see the piece is enjoyed by my peers.

I’m serious when it comes to writing, but that doesn’t mean I don’t enjoy it. The only reasons I write is because I want to, I have to, and I’m good at it. I don’t always produce terrible work, but when I do, it’s because I didn’t try, and the work wasn’t important to me. When I whisk up an exemplary entrée, it’s because I held at least somewhat of an interest in the ingredients.
