Heyy... so, yeah I know i've been absent for quite a while now. Things have been crazy hard for the past two to three years for me. Emotionally and financially. But... that's not what I'm going to talk about.
So, I've been seeing recently that a lot of authors have some of their books here on Wattpad and then moving to scrollstack. The scrollstack versions are obviously paid and probably has more smut in their storyline. The story picks up in popularity here and then moves to scrollstack and that is a paid version.
As a writer myself, writing smut books, I see two major reasons for it moving to being paid. Point One, the feeling of it being something like a payback for the effort put into writing. Mostly writers actually want to be like a published writers but might not find publications to get their books printed and scrollstack gives them that opportunity. Point Two, a lot of people end up reporting the smut content when it becomes a little heavy, so making it paid avoids the hassle because people pay only when they know they like reading such stuff.
But, as someone who actively reads, I get that it feels wronged to the readers here on Wattpad. They think they've invested time and energy into reading and getting invested in the story line and then suddenly the author moves to a paid version on scrollstack.
When a book is being written, at least when I write, there's a lot more investment of time, energy and emotions on the writing process. We plan the characters, the plotline, the movement, the chapter length, the details, and such. So, getting some benefit from it makes the author feel appreciated.
I know that readers here on Wattpad are because it is a free platform on which they can read without needing to pay. I get that side of the argument too but as a writer I can understand the choice of an author wanting to get some benefit from the story they've put their heart and soul into writing.
