Having grown up in a story loving family, I've been telling stories and building imaginary worlds for myself as long as I can remember. I cut my teeth on Star Trek's original series, Lost in Space, and more science-fiction and fantasy series than I can remember thanks to my mother's love of the genres. Those early influences led to my own fascination with the sciences, mythology, legends, and storytelling as a whole.
I began writing almost three decades before I was finally diagnosed with autism at 38, and afterwards, I began to notice where the influence of my neurodivergence slipped through in many if not all of my point-of-view characters. A stim here or an "overly sensitive" description of something there, autistic traits presented in the way they experience the worlds I put them in because I had no clue that was different from the way others perceived the world.
While this was amusing, and a touch embarrassing, to realize since it was all done by accident, I decided to embrace this facet of my writing style. So, I went back to works still in progress and approached characters with greater purpose behind the way I write their viewpoints and descriptions to try and better portray the diversity in how we all experience the world.
