One of the big misunderstanding of today is that people believe fan fiction is only for teens and is only 18+ stuff. 

Well, remember that story you wrote when you were probably 7 about your favourite TV show or book? That is fan fiction. Fan fiction literally means a fictional story written by the fan of another story. 
The writer is just expressing their view of the story and/or ideas for potential plot in the same universe! Think about that the next time you try to judge someone's story.
