Writing has always been a big part of my early life. Whether it was poetry, rap, lyrics, or honing my skills through writing short stories along with others on a website called Gaiaonline; I always had a feeling that my wordiness would take me somewhere. It was until a generous soul on social media suggested I take my writing seriously on this website that I finally took the first step at becoming an author.
A bit of personal background:
I currently reside in bustling Ho Chi Minh City in my ancestral motherland of Vietnam. Being a native of the United States, I was brought up in two worlds: the outside Western society and the inner Vietnamese cultural upbringing of my family. Being raised with a heavy influence on "knowing where you came from," I was taught my hereditary language since birth, so that whenever I decided to return to my origins I would have the means to communicate with my fellow Vietnamese. I can confidently assure you that it has been a wondrous thing to be able to speak my mother and father's language.
During my years of middle school, my English teacher taught me that writing is solely dependant on your courage to say the things that society will judge you for. I learned that harshly whenever I would write observational poetry that would jab at the students in my class. I was courageous, but perhaps a bit too courageous.
Then, during my high school years, my World Lit. teacher would show me the wonders of literature with meanings that were more than just paper-deep. She brought me into the world of metacognitive analysis (simply put: being able to grasp deeper concepts from works of literature). It was then that I fell deeply in love with the written word.
However, I'm ashamed to say that I have fallen out and have become estranged from the pages of literature for quite some time. But I do hope that by creating my own stories will I fall head over heels again.
Please join me as I embark on my personal journey of literature!
