I have a question I plan to ask all my Catholic friends because I had someone ask me and I genuinely don't know the answer:
          
          Are Roman Catholics and Catholics the same thing? Like I'm aware that my family is in fact Franciscan Catholic but I'm not sure if that's a similar classification or not!

In fact I just looked it up on the Catholic encyclopedia on newadvent.org and actually roman Catholic was something protestants created as a pejoritive term toward us because they did not want Catholics to have a monopoly on the word Catholic, at the time they still considered themselves part of the Catholic church. But yes its the same thing, as opposed to something like a Byzantine Catholic which is a different rite but still Catholic.
            
            The Franciscans are an order within the Catholic church. So you dont have to say Franciscan Catholic. You are a Catholic of the Roman Rite under the Franciscan order. The Roman rite is also known as the Latin Rite but after 1969 and the second ecumenical council of the vatican they removed the Latin Rite for their counterfeit "novus ordo rite".
            
            Thats something really important for you to look into. Latin Mass vs novus ordo/vatican II. I can give you a lot of information if you want.
