I thought once about a rejection werewolf story that might go a totally different direction. I never got around to writing it though and couldn't decide which ending to aim for. 
          
          One of them had the girl deciding that her loyalty was to the people of the pack, not the structure or leadership. She ends up leaving the mate who rejected her so quickly. 
          
          He judged on appearances and values some pack members more than others... Fatal flaws in a leader. 
          
          So, she made sure there was a safe place(s) for pack members to go to as her old pack slowly came apart. 
          
          He wasn't worthy of the Alpha position, or her. She ended up protecting the people from her old pack and the pack itself eventually broke apart.
