@obliviousE27 considering that I haven't gotten the chance to finish cowboy bebop yet, I'd go with death note. It was skillfully written and I truly enjoyed it, though there were some parts that I wasn't exactly a fan of (later half of the season). Despite not picking cowboy Bebop, it doesn't mean I don't enjoy older anime like Akira, Samurai Champloo, ranma 1/2 etc. I feel like this is biased since I haven't finished cowboy bebop, but I hope this answers your question. Really they are hard to compare as they are wildly different. Death note is more of a darker thriller and cowboy bebop is more of a light hearted classic.
