My journey started five years ago. It was born from a photograph of a falcon on the arm of a beautiful vineyard woman. I never fancied myself a professional writer, but the story behind the picture was too tantalizing to ignore. Trained falcons have been used for millennia to scare away birds that eat grapes. And so I embarked on my great expedition to write this novel. Despite being utterly fictional, the story's essence lives on in a real vineyard. This book is my homage to that vineyard woman's undefeatable spirit and those warm, Nova Scotia summer nights, where the Bay of Fundy sparkled in the moonlight, and the view of the vineyard was perfect.
