Finally, I'm delighted to share the poem that inspired the title of this anthology. Many people might assume it's not a lesbian poetry book because of the title, but "don't judge a book by its cover," as the saying goes. What does lesbian poetry really mean? Is it all about making women fall in love with eachother? What about being a lesbian in the first place?
As a lesbian writer who only writes about making love to women and weaving poetry through lesbian experiences of a person of colour, this prompt was difficult to write.
It was difficult at first because it revolved around a boy, which lesbians aren't interested in or attracted to. However, after extensive research, I discovered that this could be the ideal application of this poem.
There are a few of trigger warnings in this: This is a conversation between a sexual abuse survivor and a boy who represents a rapist.
As a CSA victim, I believe that my younger self had the strength to speak up, but she grew up, and writing may aid in the battle against injustice.
I hope you all enjoy this with a nice cup of tea ☕️
