@AnanNisha Agree with you. For the plots, it's important to read the description of the story so you won't be disappointed later. But from my perspective as an author, I think authors should always put a trigger warning for the readers. It can be included in the description or it can be even as a chapter.
I also read many stories and sometimes I didn't like the writing style as well, but when I start reading, I always try to end the story even if it's bad. Because when I was just a reader, I used to stop reading too. However, when I started writing, I realized that those votes were always important for the authors. Hahaha, it's everyone's own perspective, of course, and I understand yours. I'm just saying my point of view too. :)
Personally, I always say, "If you don't like it, don't read.". Yes, it'll hurt the author when the (regular) reader DNF (does not finish) their story, but it's also good if the reader says the reason, in the comments (e.g. if it's something disturbing in the story or the progress of the story). Politely, of course. Some authors may understand, some not. Depends on the perspective again.
I actually think that for many authors (or at least for me), votes on their stories and followers (readers) are the biggest motivation. Votes, of course, are the direct-indirect "you did well/I liked this chapter" from the readers. Following from the reader, of course, is the direct saying "I liked your story (stories), I like your writing, and I want to read more from you in the future and 'follow' you." :) ❤️ So yes, I agree that harsh words can demotivate the author, but at the same time, some authors are focusing more on those readers who really enjoy their stories. On the other hand, I understand when they get demotivated from those words. And honestly, it's really sad if an amazing writer stops writing because of them. :(
