“greetings to you, lord poseidon” the ferryman of the underworld would bow at the sight of sea god who stood on the shoreline of the river styx, respect held within charon’s voice when he spoke.

“may i ask, what brings you here, to the underworld?” charon asked, his tall frame shrouded by his dark robe/cloak.

the dark waters of styx were calm, the powerful oceanid and goddess accepting, perhaps even welcoming the presence of poseidon.

i thought that perhaps Poseidon could be in the underworld to visit/to see Hypnos? i imagine that the both of them would visit each others realms/domains ♡ i know that the underworld is hades realm, but Hypnos, Thanatos, Nyx, and others reside there :3

i’m struggling with face claims for the rest of nyx’s children/the rest of the family, including nxy herself and such, however- i have four main choices for charon’s face claim; steve toussaint, db woodside, djimon hounsou and mahershala ali. there are other face claim choices i have in mind, but i think those four suit him best

i’m so so very sorry for rambling </3

Poseidon’s gaze did not waver from the dark waters, the reflection of the Styx folding around him like a familiar cloak. He did not bow — gods did not bow to ferrymen — but the slightest dip of his head acknowledged Charon’s presence.

“I come for a guest,” he said, voice low and even, carrying the weight of oceans and storms alike. “Not for commerce, not for judgment. Merely… to speak.”

The salt in his hair caught the faint light of the underworld, beads of water clinging like remembered tides. He let his eyes drift to the black river, noting how it mirrored his own depth, his own patience — endless, unbroken.

“The river is calm,” Poseidon observed, tone almost contemplative. “Perhaps it knows that some visitors are not meant to be feared.”

He lifted a hand slightly, not in threat, but in acknowledgement.

“Hypnos awaits,” he added. “And I have no intention of keeping him waiting.”

Jim's feet touched the ocean at the shore, and the waves receded. He stepped forward until the water reached his knees, and then sat down to pray.

In his hands, he held small greenish-blue glass figurine of a horse. Jim closed his eyes, and started his prayer, seeking to offer the beautiful figurine for an audience with the God.

Jim didn't open his eyes until he heard the God, and by then he was surrounded by the water. His heartbeat picked up, because he never imagined that this would work. In his ears, he heard the roaring ocean as the God got nearer, and he was starting to doubt his reality.

Posiedon's voice was so calm, but being in front of a literal God freaked him out. Still, he tried his best to maintain his composure, breathing in the misty air. He held his horse out, one that he has created with his own hands.

Jim smiled, and the composure and his usual confidence took over his face again.

"I seek your blessings. The kind that can sink certain ships," he mimicked the horse drowning in the water, "and save other ones," and his glass horse came up again.

He looked straight into the God's eyes, having nothing to hide. "Sailors, pirates, men of the sea... they all panic, lie, die pointlessly," his eyebrows turned downward as if the thought saddened him, "they pray too late and they have no king. Let me dominate, and I will get you their un...dying" he paused, and with a winning smile, ended, "loyalty."

The sea did not answer him with thunder. It answered with silence so heavy it bent the tide.

The water around Jim’s knees darkened, deepening from clear foam into something ink-black, as if the ocean itself were holding its breath.

Footsteps followed — not splashing, but walking, as though the water had decided it was solid just for him.

Poseidon rose from the shallows dressed in storm-dark linen, salt beading in his hair, trident nowhere in sight. His eyes were not cruel, not kind — only tired in a way no mortal should ever have to learn.

He looked first at the glass horse. Then at Jim.

“You came with a lie shaped like beauty,” he said quietly, voice threading through the surf rather than over it. “Most men bring fear.”

The tide crept closer to Jim’s ribs, not drowning, not threatening — listening.

Poseidon crouched until they were eye level, close enough that Jim could smell rain on his skin.

“A horse,” he murmured. “For a god who has buried a thousand fleets.” His gaze sharpened — not judgment, but recognition.

“So tell me,” he said softly, “what is it you are really trying to bargain away?”

Poseidon no longer rules like a king — he endures like a shoreline after endless storms.

While Olympus floats untouched above consequence, Poseidon is left to hold the aftermath: the drowned prayers, the forgotten dead, the wreckage of wars that were never his choosing. Every shipwreck lives inside him. Every soul lost at sea has a name he still remembers.

His power is emotional, not political. Storms rise when grief cracks his restraint, earthquakes when love is taken from him. He walks the mortal world in quiet disguise, drawn to the lost, the abandoned, the children of broken families — especially demigods who remind him of everything he failed to protect.

He believes love is temporary, that everything is eventually claimed by the tide, yet he continues to love anyway — fiercely, destructively, and without permission. Poseidon is not the god of the sea.

He is the god who keeps what the world throws away.
