            If you watch the Keeping up with Star Rail YouTube video regarding Aventurine, Dr. Ratio shows up to help explain Aven’s kit alongside Owlbert. Owlbert says: “Dr. Ratio may have a sharp tongue, but there seems to be some mutual respect [between Aven and Ratio].” Ratio inquires about what Aven said about him, and Owlbert explains how Aven personally asked for Ratio to be there. Owlbert (impersonating Aven) says: “Perhaps only Dr. Ratio can succinctly explain my combat style.” Ratio responds with: “Nonsense! He’s a system of chaos devoid of logic. Unintelligible! That gambler can’t possibly think my mathematics are suited to this…pinball, can he?” Owlbert responds by saying: “Aven also said Dr. Ratio will vigorously deny this, but if he didn’t fully understand my abilities, why would he accept the invitation to come on the show?” Ratio (visibly flustered and stammering) “That’s not…I just…I approve of the show’s dedication to truth and knowledge! Nothing more.” Owlbert then says how he can’t tell what the deal between them is LOLL.
            
            They are definitely very close friends due to Ratio’s willingness to help Aven in his plan because he knew how much Aven needed this, (and all of his words of support and final note), even if their opinion’s may clash, and Ratio is often disapproving of Aven’s many gambles and irrational choices, there is still such a deep mutual respect rooted in their relationship. Their dynamic can be interpreted as romantic or just platonic close friends, but I’ve just seen a lot of people claiming that they hate each other which just isn’t true, with a lot of Hoyoverse’s storytelling, there is much nuance in the characters’ interactions

            After Aven and Ratio are released from their negotiation with Sunday, Ratio comments: “You look pale. Or, is that also part of your act?” and “Just tell me if you can't hold on any longer.” He’s expressing genuine concern for Aven despite the fact that Sunday could still be watching, he wanted Aven to know that he was there for him if things got too hard. At the end of their interaction, Ratio gives Aven Mundanite’s Insight, and instructs him to: “Open it when you're on your last legs. You'll thank me.”
            
            
            Jumping way ahead in the story, Aven’s plan has concluded, Acheron was the final piece in his gamble, being enveloped by the nihility. Aven hasn’t reached the afterlife, but another dreamscape under the watch of nihility, governed by Acheron’s blade. Acheron instructs Aven to “Take a good look at your pocket. Your friend has already given you the answer.” Even Acheron is aware of their close bond, even referring to Ratio as his friend. Ratio’s letter reads: “The impossible in the Dreamscape is not ‘Death,’ but rather ‘Dormancy.’ Do stay alive. I wish you the best of luck.” Ratio wishing Aven good luck as well as to live on truly shows Ratio’s compassion for Aven, he cares about him, he wants him to get the answers he’s seeking but also to keep living. Ratio brings up dormancy, which means a suspended state of being, or oftentimes deep sleep, which ties back to the theme of “why does life slumber? Because we are not ready for the final rest.” Sleep is controllable, yet death is a predetermined fate, an enigmatic force that life submits to. Ratio’s words are what brings Aventurine closure, he then is ready to leave this dreamscape.

            The whole interaction with Sunday and the cornerstones was all a staged “betrayal”, Dr. Ratio was playing the part of betraying Aventurine’s “plan” to Sunday (to retrieve the topaz cornerstone and the bag of gems he had gifted to the family, which he had hidden his own cornerstone in). That’s why Ratio’s words seemed so harsh or severe, since he knew Sunday was observing them and their interactions. Ratio was working as a double agent in this situation, since Aventurine’s end goal was to obtain this execution. Ratio wasn’t keen on why Aven wanted this, but aided him anyway since they’re close friends. 
            
            We see a flashback where Sunday is essentially bribing Ratio to tell him Aven’s “plan” in exchange for the Family’s knowledge. Ratio was among the people who could access the cornerstone in its protective box, where they found out it was Topaz’s cornerstone and not Aven’s, but that the family had both cornerstone’s all along, Aven had just hidden his among the gems and money. 
            
            Sunday may have thought he had busted Aven’s plan, but everything was actually going according to Aven’s larger plan that not even Ratio was privy to. Aven and Ratio do have to keep up their act, during the moment when Aven realizes Ratio has “betrayed” him, Ratio looks away, as if he’s aware of his bad poker face and doesn’t want to take any chances of revealing what is actually going on.
