TW: mentions depression and suicide, also obsession and possessive behavior.
Another fanfiction rant: I keep seeing these kinds of books on Quotev and Wattpad, and I just want to say this because these types of books trigger me so much. DON'T. ROMANTICIZE. DEPRESSION. OR. ANY. MENTAL. ILLNESS. THIS ISN'T SOMETHING THAT DISAPPEARS ONCE YOU MEET YOUR LOVER IT IS A LONG-LASTING MENTAL DISORDER THAT RUINED SO MANY PEOPLE'S LIVES OR VIEWS IN LIFE. I can't stand seeing some sort of 10 or 13-year-old writing about this! I get it! Your comfort character helped you through rough times but if you want to portray depression don't make it the character's personality, make it some sort of struggle the character has to go through every day. Don't try to make it quirky or something that makes you badass because it doesn't. This is also very problematic because if a person who is depressed and suicidal only lives for one person it sounds sort of messed up. And it doesn't help that in most of these fanfictions the character acts obsessed or possessive with the character when they are going out to meet some of their friends. Which is unhealthy and shouldn't be considered cute. It also sorts of shows the person is dependent on the character- which is even worst.
So if you writing fanfiction and the character is depressed, please, don't write it like this, if you want you could portray the character's love interest only by helping them cope not make it disappear like some sort of sickness. Because it's just wrong.
