school is more like a prison than a privilege of learning. Sit still, don’t talk back, get permission before speaking, stand in a straight line front to back. Your intelligence is based on your grades and test scores and not on your actual skills, you’re forced to sit down in a classroom for 7-8 hours with only two breaks and lunch in between classes. If you’re depressed, something’s wrong with you and you get sent to the counsellor’s office. If you have anxiety you’re considered weak and childish. If you have any other mental disorder you’re weird and not welcomed. They teach you area formula, division and math, science and reading but they don’t teach you how to stand up to a bully, they don’t teach you how to handle panic attacks, they don’t teach you how to stand up for yourself. You have bad grades? Too bad, redo that grade again and again until you get an A. You like to draw? Don’t, it’s a distraction, tear up that paper right now. You’re not allowed to do anything the teacher doesn’t tell you to, and if you defy the rules you get a punishment. You can’t sit out of gym if you don’t have a note, so you’re forced to run. You can’t skip school without having your grades failing, so you’re forced to go. Do they care if you’re slowing breaking down? Absolutely not. “Can you solve this question?” “Did you finish your homework?” “Are you smart en ough to do this?” Questions pile up and it’s overwhelming
