Most of you probably forgot I exist... but I’m about to start uploading my book very soon-literally just as soon as I make a cover I’m happy with. I’ve been working on it for a long time and I’m actually extremely proud of my opening chapter. I know many won’t read it but it would make me immensely happy if you could...

I’m going to have a nice little rant so sorry if you don’t want to hear it. Just ignore this.

Paid stories & why they agrivate me. (Part 1/2)

Wattpad was started as a fun platform for free books and individuals to write books for fun and read for free. If I wanted to pay for a book, I’d go to a book store and get a well written book (because let’s not lie, a lot of these paid stories actually have some terrible spelling and grammar that is quite frankly really frustrating at times) and probably end up spending less money. This whole platform now is just a money hunting craze. Ads everywhere (sorry to drag you into this (I won’t name you) but there were ads on my friend’s book and she can 100% say she is not being paid, however, that didn’t stop Wattpad from putting ads in the book saying it helps the author and yada yada yada) and now paid stories? It just really frustrates me because I feel like the company has just become money hungry and doesn’t care much about the younger demographic, which the app is now apparently targeted towards since you can’t even say a remotely ‘bad word’ in the comments without being immediately reported, who can’t work and pay for books online. Or maybe they’re encouraging this young demographic to take their parents credit cards and spend their money here, I don’t know. It just infuriates me.

Part 2 of my rant is separate. Sorry. Too much criticism for Wattpad to handle

(Cause Wattpad couldn’t handle how long my rant was)

I completely understand that some people are using Wattpad as a way to build a career for themselves and honestly good on them. But Wattpad should be a stepping stone. For example, probably my favourite Wattpad series ‘Storm and Silence’ and the books of that series that follow, the writer, Rob Thier, has used this platform as a way to begin his career as a published author. And I think it’s so incredible and he has published this series and I have and will continue to buy every single book he publishes. But he has still left these books free to read on Wattpad and I think that is incredibly honourable. Despite this, people still buy the books because they are so well written, have unique plots and characters and he deserves all the support in the world. He wouldn’t lead people on, give them ten chapters, then say, ‘okay now give me your money to read the rest.’ I just think that that’s really dodgey and plain unfair for younger Wattpad users especially.

Anyways sorry for ranting but it’s just something that bothers me. Feel free to respond and tell me your opinions. I’d honestly love to hear them.

@Annie_Mariah I totally agree with you. I so admire Sir Rob for his work as well as being so genuine and for giving readers an opportunity to enjoy his work for free especially to someone like me who doesn't really have the means as yet to buy or pay for books. I know for a fact that when I finally have the opportunity, the first set of books I'll be buying is the Storm and Silence series because they're my favorite and the author deserves it.

Oh my god finally someone who gets meI really think it's unfair for most people. That's why people stop using wattpad. I was so upset when I wanted to read one of my all time favourites, Damien, but found out that I had to pay for it. More Great example of Sir Rob's work. He is one of the few genuine authors here. Thank you for putting this out there.
