Part 1
Hello all Wattpad users enraged by paid stories.
A while ago, I saw that Wattpad started adding paid stories. I paid it no attention until I came back later and saw that what was once my favorite getaway from the real world had become a place to earn money. Now, this isn't a new concept for me. I have used Radish and that is where Wattpad users used to post paid chapters for some time before posting the same chapter here for free.
This is why I've been absent for quite a while from this app that used to have my heart and that I invested hundreds of hours in. Today I open it to check up on things. And what do I see? Books I once read for free (thank goodness) are now being sold. Of course, everyone wants to make money, but to me this is stooping very low.
As someone who once had (for a short amount of time) a pending project on Wattpad, of course I dreamed of becoming a published author. Doesn't everyone? But more than that, this was the place I went to so I could vent, get away from reality and step into the fictional world I know and love.
What Wattpad has turned into seems like a spit in the face of its old self. The app that promised free stories by people all around the world. That was the Wattpad legacy. Today it's barely a shell of what it once was and my whole explore page is littered with paid stories.
I don't know if anyone gets just how much this enrages me or agrees with me, but as a very old user I have decided to voice my opinion, though I know this won't change a thing.
So if somehow, someway, a person who pushes his/her stories to be paid on here sees this and reads it, I hope you get some clarity of what a few of us think on here.
Unfortunately, I have to go look for books somewhere else now.

Part 2
P.S. There is only one series of books in my Wattpad library. It's there for a reason. The author (because he IS worthy of that title) is Rob Thier. What he did for the Storm and Silence series was what all these authors should do in my opinion. He posted the chapters on Radish with the option for people to pay to binge read them. He kept his integrity and respected his roots and kept posting one chapter a week on Wattpad for all the people who can't afford to give even a tiny sum, but long to read his marvellous piece of fiction. Because his are truly works of art and to show my appreciation for his generosity, I have liked every single chapter of the series that I've read.(though I know that means nothing in reality) And for all that were wondering, THAT is how you earn respect. You don't earn it by making people pay for what could be a great book but could also end up being a monstrosity.
I know many who read this will not agree and will probably hate me for it, but think about it a little and maybe you'll get my point of view. And if you don't- kudos to you. Everyone has the right to an opinion.
