Yes, and ancient language as well as European legend.  All things that I think have also influenced me.

True, tolkein was heabily influenced by christianity.

Admittedly that was one of my influences.  Also I have studied ancient history as did Tolkein.  Massada and many of the greek battles are also influences.  That feeling like your refuge has become your coffin.  Alexander the Great spent a huge amount of resources and time laying siege to an Island Walled City State that humiliated him several times.  Eventually he did sack the city by making his men build a land bridge occross the mediterranean sea to the Island.  He then ordered the slaughter of every person in the city.  He was a dick.

Ah I see, was only asking because I felt like I noticed a similarity of sorts with the city state of hilden maar; it reminded me of helms deep from lotr. The situation of it being in a near hopeless state of being sieged and what not.

Yes, I read a ton of Fantasy and Sci-Fi.  Also I love the absolutel freedom in terms of creativity when writing fantasy.  I will eventually write in other genre's when I retire and have time to do the needed research.  But with fanatsy, my creativity is all the research I need to do.

Just curious, did you read a lot of fantasy novels for inspiration, such as lotr or forgotten realms or dragonlance?
