So, this year has been very busy for me and probably will continue to be! My imagination still runs wild occasionally though and I have some story ideas and a completed short story. Maybe I'll post them on here eventually! I wish I had the capacity to stick to a story because I so enjoy writing...oh well, I'm assuming that means writing is not meant to be my future occupation. Unless this is a normal struggle for writers? Please let me know if my mind is jumping to the wrong conclusions! Thank you.

I finished The Book Thief yesterday and I have to say, that is one of the best books I have ever read. It's my current favorite now! If you have not read it yet you should.;) Also, the movie is amazing.

Reading Leaves of Grass...maybe Whitman's writing will inspire me.

So I just discovered that the title of my story Onyx is not what I thought it was. I had thought the definition of Onyx was black or dark. Turns out, it means a semiprecious variety of agate with different colors in layers. Luckily, I have saved myself humiliation by justifying my title choice. Onyx also means a variety of chalcedony with alternating black and white parallel bands, used as a gemstone. In my opinion, my story has two important parallels. Alternating "black" and "white" bands in a way. The black theme to my short story is fear. The white band to my short story is freedom. Whew! That was a close call.
