I'm not sure how I keep them from being boring... I try to keep entertaining dialogue. I also love to introduce villians or obstacles that people didnt' see coming. THey can be big or little just so long as they keep it interesting. 
          
          My story idea usually just pop into my head and a lot times they are inspired by a song.  Good luck with your story!! :)
