Why are most the popular Wattpad fanfics a character x author’s oc or reader inserts?
Like if I’m reading fan fiction, I’m either looking for a ship, fix-its after traumatic movies ( ahem endgame) or some nice platonic found family tropes thank you.

Literally though Be More Chill started officially on Broadway a couple weeks after my family was on vacation in New York. So we missed that and my mom made me choose between seeing The Prom and Dear Evan Hansen. Every other show I currently want to see is touring (and I live in California so they always come near me) except for those two.

Wattpad fanfics are generally awful.
I don’t know what’s with the writing standards here in comparison to other websites but it sucks.
Also, to clarify: I’m not necessarily trying to attack fanfic writers/writers in general on Wattpad, ya’ll are great. But it just seems so strange because the stories and fanfics that end up super popular are usually written horribly.
I swear, everytime I see my art book’s horrid cover I have a small heart attack. The worst part, is that I could easily change it but it’s so perfectly cringey that I’m legally obligated to leave it the way it is.
