Is this where I should be publishing stuff? Or am I in the wrong place for that?

AuthorSherrieMiranda

Thanks, you-know-who! Maybe someday, I'll get back to this. I wish my blog posts would just post here automatically like it does on other sites! ;-) <3

Its been so long I've forgot but I think when you first begin you clik on 'Create' - above, leftish - between Discover & Community and follow directions.
Usually - directions are clik-> new story > type in title > copy & past story or chapter or Part (1,2, or whatever).
After you've posted the first one or 2 stories you should be able to clik (far right) your name & a drop down panel will offer you ' My Works'. Then > 'New Story' and repeat as above with 'Create' process for each new story.
This is your profile page - people can comment but no place to vote or put book covers or media : )It's mostly for news & notifications, etc.

Review for: The Country Under My Skin: A Memoir of Love and War
          by Sherrie Miranda
5.0 out of 5 stars A Memoir That Reads Like A Novel! Outstanding!
          The Country Under My Skin
          Verified Amazon Purchase
This review is from: The Country Under My Skin: A Memoir of Love and War
          by Gioconda Belli
I thought I had long ago written a review for this great memoir. After all I used Belli’s understanding of the struggle for a character in my novel.
I apologize for not posting this sooner, especially since I read it in just a few days as it was full os suspense and steadily brought the reader to the understanding of a Revolutionary woman who was soon made to feel her services weren’t needed anymore once the Revolution had happened. Perhaps that explains why the changes didn’t last?
Belli’s story is one of great courage, fortitude and understanding. Belli, obviously loved her people very much, since she was one the the few who could have escaped but didn’t.
Belli is talented, not only as a poet, but also as a storyteller. I sincerely hope we get some more prose from this amazing woman and writer.
Thank you for writing such a beautiful and eye-opening book.

I added this comment to a review that suggested Belli should explain why poets are so important to her people:
Actually, poetry has had a “more political function” all over the world, including the U.S. But one would only know that if one were involved in the politics of the oppressed and Making political change from the bottom up. Ever hear of the first rap “The Revolution Will Not Be Televised”? Even many of the songs of the sixties were about political change. And of course, the folk music before that.

Cont. Book Review
In Latin America, many of the great poems that were made to create social change have been made into songs, including in El Salvador, Roque Dalton’s “Poema de Amor,” Love Poem, an homage to the Salvadoran people and their struggle. I am sure this has happened all over the world, I just am not that familiar with the tradition in other countries.
You make a good point, though, perhaps we shouldn’t assume that the reader is already a convert to the cause. After all, reading is how many of us came to be enlightened. Many of us were fortunate to have others around to help us understand, but in this day of people staying at home in front of their PCs, we may need to preface work that has an important political impact.
Anyway, bravo to you, Poniplaizy, for wading through the memoir and finding the gems that were there. I imagined you must have “googled” a lot to figure out what happened in Nicaragua in the 70s. Let’s hope others will do the same.
            Peace,
            Sherrie Miranda
P.S. My novel has a translation of “Love Poem” by Roque Dalton and his presence is felt throughout the novel. LONG LIVE THE POETS OF THE WORLD!
Sherrie Miranda’s historically based, coming of age, Adventure novel “Secrets & Lies in El Salvador” is about an American girl in war-torn El Salvador.

I posted this on my blog.
          My Book IS My Baby!
          by Sherrie Miranda
The following is a response I wrote to an author who wrote “My Book Is Not My Baby”
          Stephanie,
I feel as though I should apologize to you and all mothers. At my book release party, I told people “I never had a child and this (book) is my baby.”
I can’t even imagine the feelings one goes through while pregnant, during child-birth and after, when one has to deal with that child. But I purposely never had a child because I knew the entire process is painful, very difficult and even heartbreaking at times.
In my case I did feel all these emotions with my novel, from writing the first draft, to the final ms that was turned into the editor, to the exposure of my book to the world. There are many things that are out of my control, and there are many things that are not, yet I didn’t control them.
At one point, I had a misunderstanding with the editor and I, unintentionally, insulted him. The only way I could begin to convince him that it was a mistake was to give him a tip ($200, a little less than 20%). All along this process, I have been hurt and have responded badly because of misunderstanding or not being clear enough, or even sometimes people actually were rudely insulting me or my work.
Looking back, I almost always overreacted. But, whether it was my fault or someone else’s, my heart has been broken several times throughout the process. I have had sleepless nights and days that I walked through like a zombie. I have cried, gotten angry, been too mean and sometimes, even too nice.
Would it have been worse, had I had a child? Definitely! That’s why I never did. A child would have broken my heart over and over. But, like with the novel, I would most likely have come out of it a better, stronger person.

AuthorSherrieMiranda

So, although it feels like an apology is what is needed, all I can say is I didn’t feel the physical pain that you and other mothers felt, but the emotional, psychological and heart-felt feelings were there every step of the way. I could not have handled the physical pain, at least that’s what my mother always thought. She was sure I never had a child because I was afraid of the pain. What she didn’t understand was that it wasn’t the physical pain I was afraid of.
            I hope this makes sense.
            Sherrie

Sherrie Miranda's historically based, coming of age, Adventure novel “Secrets & Lies in El Salvador” is about an American girl in war-torn El Salvador: You can find it on Amazon.
Her husband made a video for her novel. He wrote the song too:
It has the same title as my book & is one YouTube.

You can see all the links: two for my debut novel, one for the trailer for the novel, one for my blog & one for my Facebook page which also has my blogposts. Don't go to FB if you don't like politics or are into NeoCon politics as you will just feel frustrated.
I am also on Twitter, LinkedIn, Google, Tumbler, Pinterest & a couple other social sites out there.
          Peace & love,

"Place" I meant, not pace. Sorry about that. Interesting that there's no "edit" button here.
Anyway I came here cuz Sloane Ranger, the longest member of the writer's group that I started, has been bugging me for years, telling me I need to be here.
We just renamed the writer's group "South Bay Scribes." We are in Southern San Diego County and kinda have a reputation of being slackers and gangsters so we are trying to change the image of the South Bay.

I guess we can't post links in these discussion boxes. Sorry.
You will see a lot of cool stuff on my Wordpress blog. Wordpress is a great pace to connect with other authors/writers and supporters of the same.
            Hasta pronto,
            Sherrie
