Anyone else get a strange message on their message board that asks you to complete a verification or you’ll lose the ability to post new stories?
@AvatarAshdel omg! Now I think hackers and scammers are really targeting Watppad after the pirating on Google Books, and the discord hacking, now this! Did you report them?
One Man’s Treasure has been removed from Google Play Books. I want to thank everybody for their support. Once again I urge everyone to make sure their work has not been stolen and is being sold by some thief.
Google Play Books had sent a reply to my request to take down my stolen work from their platform. They have informed me they cannot take it down because they are not positive I am the copyright owner of my Open Novella Contest work One Man’s Treasure.
They asked to me reply to the email and explain in further detail how I own the copyright. They didn’t give me a date to reply by but I imagine they want one within the next couple days or the request may be canceled.
Has this happened to anyone else? Does anybody have any idea what more detail I can provide them? They didn’t ask for anything specific just more proof beyond what was asked for in the initial request.
I am very sad and quite shocked they are not able to do anything more at the moment.
Any help would be appreciated.
@AvatarAshdel I can't even imagine how infuriating this would look from your POV, but just reading about this made me furious. I hope they take down the stolen copy of your book too.
As many of us know, piracy is a big concern for any author that posts work online. This morning @HeideReynes made me aware that my Open Novella Contest 2026 entry, One Man’s Treasure, was stolen and put on Google Play Books. I have made a report so hopefully the book will be taken down from that platform in the next couple of days. I will not be taking the work off Wattpad, but from now on I will be checking to make sure if this happens again that it’s reported and the thief isn’t making money off my work. I urge you all to check other platforms you don’t post on periodically to make sure if anyone is making money off your work that’s it’s you and you alone. Again I want to thank @HeideReynes for making me aware that it had happened to me. I made the decision a few weeks ago to limit the amount of original work I post on Wattpad because I was afraid of piracy, but I did not make an official announcement at that time so I am going to do it now. From now on my account will consist mostly of fanfics. I will post original work from time to time, smaller pieces and the Open Novella Contest when a prompt speaks to me, but anything I want to traditionally publish someday will no longer be on Wattpad. —AvatarAshdel
