So.
The next update to 'The New Stories', the segment previously called Awkward, (it made sense with my discarded draft, I swear!), is going to be pretty different from the previously published parts.
I just felt I should explain it further.
The first and most notable of these differences, is that unlike 'Paperwork' and 'FFASC', this next work is the first of two whumphs/sickfics in this collection. If you are unfamiliar with these terms, a sickfic is a work of fiction focusing on a character who is, well, sick. Whumphs can be stretched to 'umbrella' this, if you will, but is more commonly used as a broader term for essentially physically destroying a character in many ways, typically a more graphic style in some cases killing the character.
BEFORE YOU CLICK AWAY- I PROMISE I HAVE NO INTENTION OF KILLING OFF ANYONE! All that is included in this delicious buffet of angst is drama, denial, suspense, and uh... fluff. Everyone lives and gets a happy ending, I swear!
Second of the most notable differences!
This work actually is not a one-shot, but is and extended story separated into four parts. I am not yet certain exactly how I will choose to update and split the parts. So far, I have a couple spots where it might flow easily, but splitting a whole story AFTER it's drafted is hard! The story has to flow, yet 'hook' the reader into wanting the rest of the story, and it's more difficult when I am also trying to deal with editing without relying on my friends and family to double check and give me honest opinions. I have excellent spelling, but I am horrible at typing, so it comes out a rather average job.

That brings me to the third point! I am editing this story in a very different way than I have edited previously. Previously, I have used a combination of self-editing, my brother as a beta reader, and an online source to check for grammar. However, I do not feel comfortable sharing this story before posting it, so I decided now was as good of a time as ever to make the transition I had been planning on for a while, to completely self edited.
Fourth order of business: I am tired. There's a lot going on right now, but once I get past this four-part story, (I am considering moving the eight-part Chains and Castles back to give myself a much needed break) it should be smooth sailing from there. I do enjoy writing pieces of fanfic for the readers of this beloved series, but to quote Jenny: "Less is more, (Master Chubb,) less is more." So I am working on it, I draft and rewrite often, but it's tough going. I've probably written seven completely different versions of how I want this extended one-shot to go. (And my draft that I liked best is now unrecoverable.)
So in general, I'm working on it. So far I've survived without too much burnout and hope to post soon.
