Dear readers, unfortunately I will have to pause the posting of my draft on Wattpad.
I realised over the past weeks that publishing a first draft is a really bad idea for many reasons: first, I don’t feel free to experiment, since I must always make sure that the published bit makes sense and connects to the rest of the draft. This is a problem, since experimenting with the story is the main purpose of a first draft.
Second, in the process of writing, I would sometimes like to skip a scene and return to it later, so that I can write some other scene that I want to write right now. This is impossible when live-publishing a draft, because then the reader will see an empty or just sketched chapter and lose faith in the quality of the text. But forcing myself to work everything out in the right sequence is not only killing the creative process, but also potentially creating totally superfluous chapters: sometimes the feeling that one could skip a chapter proves to be a sign that one can, actually, skip it entirely, because that chapter is not really needed. Blowing up a book with redundant chapters just because at the point of writing they seemed like a good idea is, itself, a bad idea. So for the moment I will suspend the publication of my story on Wattpad, but return to it when the book is finished.
Thanks for reading and for your support!
