When I was sixteen, I ran sobbing into my mother's arms one day after opening my first ever acceptance letter. Forty years on, I still remember that moment in every tiny detail. Prior to that I'd had letters published in various newspapers and magazines and other bits and pieces in school magazines, but this was my first ever article in a real magazine and I will never forget the elation, the thrill and the purest sense of joy at having finally achieved something I'd been dreaming about ever since I was seven years old. I have been very lucky in that forty years. I mean I have worked incredibly hard and will do so until the day I die because writing is my destiny - always has been and always will. But I know luck has played its part. I am not a millionaire (I still have to do a full time job) and I am not a literary superstar. But I am a writer - a poet - a Creative Writing coach - and I am so grateful for every single thing, every success no matter how small, every other writer/poet I have ever helped and believed in - and (I'll admit) every time I have signed an autograph. I want to share that joy with you. I want to encourage and inspire and I will always always want to be read. So here's to a great future. I don't know Wattpad yet - I haven't even been a member for a whole week yet - but I think we are going to become very good companions on the Creative Writing highway!
