Hey, I’ve just got an announcement to make. I don’t really know who listens to me anymore, after being gone for so long, but with the current climate in America right now, I want to say my piece.
What Trump and ICE are doing is disgusting. It is inhumane, cruel, and so messed up it makes me want to scream. But I’m sure everyone knows this now.
But what I really want to say is we can’t back down. As I type this there may be another person getting arrested, deported, or shot. Fellow Americans, we can’t let them make us afraid, because fear is what makes them win. Stand up for your neighbor, speak out, and if you are white, take advantage of the privilege that shouldn’t be there to do something good. Even if it is something small, like hanging a supportive flag, attending a protest, whistle blowing at agents you see on the streets. As always, be safe when you act, but do something.
As a person who’s read the history books, I know history may not always repeat itself, but it does love to rhyme. History is currently trying to slide a very dark past into the present, but we have the choice to not let that happen. Don’t run away, and stand up for your neighbor.
