Dil shares the heart-breaking story of Dogun Der, a frequently misunderstood and undervalued manager searching to overcome his self-admitted lack of competence in people skills. Through a series of peaks and ravines that take him from triumph to dejection, Dogun discovers that his incompetence in people skills will repeatedly cause him anxiety and disappointment at work. His ultimate discovery is that the both the unconscious and conscious incompetencies of the organisations and their leaders are having as much, if not more impact, on the consequences of his lack of corporate political astuteness.
Dogun's story shares the lessons learnt, that take him from Unconscious Incompetence to Conscious Incompetence in his striving for Conscious Competence. These lessons are learnt from the well grassed fields of school to the dusty plains of a foreign country, to the paved walkways of university and onto legalised modern-day slavery, from cultures and governance structures of a 100 year old company to new and youthfully vibrant companies and finally a barely new company with little or no corporate governance structures.
