The rain fell in relentless sheets, blanketing the narrow road that cut through the woods. Mia tightened her grip on the steering wheel, her knuckles turning white as she squinted through the windshield, trying to make out anything beyond the swirling mist. She wasn't supposed to be out here, especially alone.

The car's headlights caught something ahead - a figure standing still in the middle of the road. Mia slammed the brakes, heart pounding, as her tires skidded to a halt mere feet from the figure. She squinted, trying to make out the details. The figure was a woman, her head bowed, long hair covering her face, her clothes soaked through from the rain. She didn't move, didn't react to the headlights beaming onto her.

Hesitating, Mia rolled down the window a crack. "Are you okay?" she called out, her voice shaky.

The woman remained silent, her head still down, as if she hadn't heard. A chill crept up Mia's spine, and instinct told her to leave - to drive away and never look back. But something in her pushed her to step out, to offer help. She couldn't just leave someone alone like that.

As she opened her door and stepped into the rain, the woman lifted her head. What Mia saw made her stumble back in horror - the woman's face was blank, smooth as polished marble, with no eyes, no nose, no mouth.

Mia gasped, frozen in place, as the woman took a single, silent step toward her. Then another, and another, moving with an eerie grace. Her heart pounding, Mia turned and ran back to her car, fumbling with the door handle, but it wouldn't budge. The engine, still idling, suddenly sputtered and died.

She glanced over her shoulder - the woman was gone.

For a split second, relief flooded Mia. But then, she felt a cold breath on the back of her neck and heard a whisper, soft as a hiss, just behind her ear.
