So, I'm pretty sure that I have 0 active followers, but I'll write this, just in case.
Wattpad had a data breach.
If you don't know about it, it's probably because you haven't been on Twitter in the past day, or haven't accessed your linked email in a bit.
A lot of stuff was exposed - passwords, usernames, birthdates, email addresses, IP addresses upon signup (if your account was created before 2017) and more.
What can you do?
Well, since this happened nearly a month ago (Yes. We're only finding out about this now.), you can't do much in regards to this breach.
BUT - you can protect yourself from future breaches.
•Change your Wattpad password,
•Change passwords on any other app/site that has the same password,
•Change the password of the email you use for Wattpad,
•If you have a 3rd party app linked (such as Twitter, or Google) you don't HAVE to change your password for those (granted that it's not the same password you're using for Wattpad) but your ID (username) from those apps was also exposed (only of you've linked them), so it's better to be safe than sorry.
Don't panic though.
Yes, it's very possible that your account information was exposed. However, things such as payment info (relevant for premium users) were not exposed (those details, allegedly, are stored elsewhere)
The amount of compromised accounts is absolutely MASSIVE. Nobody can go through all of the leaked information that fast (even if a while has already passed), so chances are - your account hasn't been affected beyond the data breach. As long as you change your passwords, you should be safe.
Wattpad is currently experiencing a partial outage, so you may have some issues with changing your password, but don't worry, it'll be alright, just give it a moment, and try again. There isn't some movie-like bomb countdown breathing down your neck. Stay calm, it'll be alright.
Stay safe,
-Rika
