With the race changes in the Odyssey movie, I'm not particularly mad about them. Goddesses like Athena can appear in any form. So, I would rather judge what performance Zendaya will give. With Lupita as Helen of Troy, I can see the vision of what Nolan is going for. I'm not mad and don't mind it. I'll be honest, I do have disagreements when it comes to race-swapping if it's done in bad faith. And it's already a hot topic. In my opinion, we rarely see Black characters in fantasy spaces. So, the immediate race switches make sense. But at the same time, people shouldn't blame the actors but blame the casting directors, director, etc because I feel bad for Black actors who get slammed for taking a role, especially in a popular fantasy show/movie. One that's originally a white character. It's like the Snape (Harry Potter) situation but that's a whole other topic.
Regarding Lupita, I know she'll do good as Helen. Some people say they should only hire Greek actors, which is true. But most of the time, it's mainly British actors. The only issue is I didn't like how they let Tom Holland and Robert Pattinson do American accents. Literally, I was expecting at least to hear a British accent, but the minute they said "My Dad" or "Daddy," that took me out.
I know some people say the casting is full of A-listers, but honestly, it's a Nolan movie. But it is distracting ngl.

@Millany_Kelly_Green Yeah, from an American perspective, it's another Hollywood blockbuster where it's mostly just the action, score, and cinematography that'll stand out in the movie. And it depends on the story because it can be good or bad. I like hearing your perspective because since Hollywood messed up aspects of Ancient Greek stories in movie adaptations, it's an eyeopener as an American in learning more about Greek culture. I never read the Odyssey but that is something I want to check out in the future.

@Blue101Art I totally recommend you the Epics . They have broken the time barrier because they portray society and the human passion just like they are now. You won't regret it

@Blue101Art You have a point but the main problem is that NOBODY read the Odyssey like the original script and they ranted it all like the Odyssey was some chauvinistic manifesto. Women pull the strings in the actual Odyssey and because of women the war and all the subsequents happened. It's a big NO for me as a Greek that the actual script was not followed. Helen of Troy should be according to the Epic as much as everyone else portrayed in . They should have at least translated the actual verses of the Odyssey into English and keep the poetic side of it intact. Only one thing has no limits and that's the human stupidity and those Hollyweirdos committed hubris.
