"I know its Saturday, and I normally help you down at the Flea Market, but there is a very important meeting I must attend in - " I glance at my wrist device, "In 30 minutes."
"Dressed like a magical shogun?" He asked.
"Dressed like a Glamorous shogun, yes."

No one cared about me, let alone recruited me for anything.

I did a quick sweep and noticed fifteen women seated below, and more coming in behind me. I guessed about 25-30 girls would show today, which said a lot about what Amelia and her girls thought about the worthiness of Hika-Accra junior high. Less is more. Less makes the job easy. Less makes us standout.

So many of the girls here were upper class, seventh and 8th graders. There were a couple of 6th grade girls speckled in between, but they stood out like freckles on a pale face. And I fit right in. I was calm, collect, an aspiring glamour girl. I was nervous earlier, but now, I felt more in control than ever.

More sure than I have in a long time.

Then she walked out to the center of the catwalk.

And the air tensed. Every girl perked up. Amelia Gibson, headliner, Glamour Girl Uno, the girl I wanted to be.

"Good morning, ladies, and welcome to the Glamour Girls Informational '23 . . . we have an exam." I look back up at Amelia, who stared at me like she'd seen a ghost. And then the others noticed and every girl stared at me too. That's when it dawned on me. I was right all along. The message . . . had come in error.

Question is, if Amelia didn't send me, her best friend the message, then who did?

It was confirmed . . . Hope had forsaken the Ryu household.

          "Who were you talking with?"
"That was the realtor . . . He advised me to sell the house."

"I've been offered the opportunity to participate in the Mount Mitake Exhibition this spring."
"That is wonderful! I'm so proud of you . . . He would be too."

Ta'kio was once the technique wielded by Father. How would I do him justice? How would I carry the torch as he once did? . . . If I allowed her to partake in my conditioning, she'd stop, and focus on the task at hand. Losing Father has been just as tough on her, and If I could help ease the pain, I would. I will.

"I'd love for you to help me condition."
"You will not regret it Su-Ryu. I promise."
          "I know, Mother."

"Wait . . . How and why do you choose Jin and not me? . . . I mean no offense, I think it has something to do with his Dad's passing – "
"You stop right there . . . If I hear you say that again, I will never allow you to train. Ever. Do you understand me? . . . I chose him because at this time, he is simply better. And you need to understand that."

          Simply better.

I will make them see . . . I will make Papa and Jin understand that it should be me, that saying Jin's better than me was the wrong thing to do.
