"    the words felt sour on her tongue ,   and deep down she knew she shouldn't be asking these things ,   being so on edge around him ━    but that was all she knew .    exhausted gaze lands on his face ,  skin crawling at the look he gave her . 
            
            "  Don't  bother  lying .    I  look  and  feel  like  shit ,   I'm  aware  of  it . "   the woman in the mirror was foreign to her ,   curls slowly growing back in ,    bones now cushioned by flesh and not skin .    she falls back into the seat behind her ,   one hand running down her face ,  lingering for a second ,   shielding herself from view momentarily ━   wanting nothing more than to curl up in a ball and sob in that room .    but she didn't .    she couldn't .

                     ❝    YOU’RE LOOKING BETTER,   DAY BY DAY.   ❜❜    and she is.  her hair is growing back and there’s life seeping back into her skin.   it’s all he could ask for really.  john lingers near the doorway,  the rest of his weight leaning against the  wooden frame.   he fails to cross and invade the space of his hospital room,   instead he simply watches from afar.    gesturing towards the chair across from farah.     they’ve been here before,  it’s not the first time he’s visited and it certainly wouldn’t be the last.   but he asks every single time he visits.   awaiting the signal.    

[   words blunt ,   perhaps hostile .   it didn't register in her mind why a foreign soldier would come to their aid after almost ten years ;    was there some other reason ?   either way ,   she was on edge .   ten years in prison ruined any semblance of trust she had for other people ,   especially those she'd never met before  ]     You have no reason to care for us .   All of this was some . . .    job ,  for you .    A task .
