Current song obsession: "Unknown Delight" by George Harrison.
So I've been recently messing with an AI story generator (I wanted to give it a try, inspired by the chatGPT book @sweet_painted_lady has) and the results have been outrageous and hilarious. Would anyone be interested in reading those stories?
@sweet_painted_lady then read them you shall! I've literally been having too much fun with these stories XD some are too good to not save!!
I'm going to share some (maybe controversial) Queen thoughts here... -What do all of you Queenies think of the release of the new version of "The Night Comes Down" ? I like the new drum sound on this version, but some don't, though what bothers me is that they (I don't know who) PITCH CORRECTED/AUTO-TUNED Freddie. Plus, added reverb, making it more modern. This isn't the first time, either ("Face It Alone" being an example). -The new 'music video' is a shame, too - using old footage and AI generated images (which I'm surprised Brian would allow, rather than ACTUAL people making art, like the You Are The Champions things. Maybe he wasn't aware, maybe he was.) -And their merch is getting questionable, like, the designs were better two or three years ago. (even some from last year. But really, A "Miracle" Rubik's cube? The Hot Space one is better) -Also, they seem to be getting lazy with releasing these singles (like Cool Cat and this song, and Face It Alone) because for the b-sides, it's just an "instrumental version". Instead of remastering an actual b-side. Instrumentals can be nice, but it feels lazy and cheap. Thoughts?
@paul_is_my_husband It's one of my favorite songs too, it's so vulnerable and beautiful. There's a very 60s/70s sound to the original song. (Of course it was the 70s but it didn't sound ahead of its time) Sadly, like I said, this isn't the first time they pitch-corrected Freddie's voice (supposedly they've done it on some live concerts too, but Face It Alone is more noticeably changed). I feel like they forgot that Freddie was a graphic designer. It was surprising to see AI used because in the past, they've collected other people's art sent in (even on Brian's solo videos like Maybe Baby - the video for that cover featured so much original art). Freddie was right in his prediction.. Plus, I find moving pictures (that were never videos) a bit creepy. I feel the same, so many classic albums get remastered, like the Beatles ones. Or Wings. Even the 'original' remastered stuff from Queen like in 2011 (but I do like the 2024 remasters of Rock Montreal and The Miracle). And those are great. Which makes me wonder how involved artists actually are. And again, it's fair if Brian and Roger didn't like the sound of the first album because they didn't have the nicer equipment or money, but I hope it's not them messing with the vocals.
I know I'm more of a Beatlemaniac than a Queenie but I'm a partial one and I listened and watched the whole video and I just have to let out my feelings towards it... First of all, The Night Comes Down is one of my favorite Queen songs, it's absolutely gorgeous and Freddie's voice sounds lovely as always...on the original, that is. WHO IN THEIR RIGHT MIND THOUGHT IT WAS A GOOD IDEA TO PITCH CORRECT FREDDIE'S VOCALS?! His voice is already perfect, don't mess with it! And all of the AI in the music video...just upsetting. Let's keep in mind that Freddie was a graphic designer. He would never want to see the "easy way out" taken. Make the argument of "You can do anything with my music, darling, just don't make it boring". I feel as though Freddie himself would find it boring and disappointing. I mean, he even predicted that technology would be used to make music one day. We should've listened, as that's all it is now practically. I have no issues with remasters or reissues of classic album. Beatles do this all the time, especially Paul, and they turn out perfectly. Why? No AI to be found, it's just a clearer, cleaner sound. If Queen wants to keep doing this with other albums, that's great, but please, never screw with Freddie's voice. That's just a rule that can't be broken.
@The_Fairy_King I like their originality and talent too.. That's why they're unique. But yeah, it is leaning towards basic pop. There isn't a need, you're right! I find auto-tune to be robotic or just weird sounding. It takes away feeling. Yeah, would Freddie approve the video? I think not. I don't think he'd let anyone auto-tune his vocal from 73, either, if he were around. I don't know much about producing music, so even if it was just the sound and not auto-tune, it would still be leaning towards unoriginal. He would've probably loved young artists making the video too (I think Brian would too, considering the "Bri-Art" stuff - not sure how he let this happen, or if he has a say..) I agree on your views of the merch too. Some of it IS good, like I almost got the "I Want It All" design shirt, but I wasn't super enthusiastic for it enough for the price (I'm American so shipping from the UK is ridiculous and with $30+-$40 shirts, it's not great). My other issue with the merch is how Freddie-centered it is. I know he's amazing (but so are the rest of the band) and many's favourite.. But they use the same pictures of him and it's boring. I'd love more Roger stuff. Or them as a band (but even some of that new stuff is ugly). If they wanted to be newer, the could do more BoRhap movie stuff, maybe! (But they know how controversial that movie is) It sometimes feels like, with this weird merch (but again, some works like "The Works" cover on a shirt) and random remixes, that someone's just trying to keep making money? Like, dude, people will still buy Queen stuff without them trying to always make a profit. A skateboard deck? A water bottle? A freaking umbrella! Really. Some seems irrelevant. Really sad to see a great band do this. But again, I don't think it's all Bri and Rog. They're pretty smart.
I love writing one shots, but I haven't been feeling that creative with it lately - though I have a chapter I'm working on. Anybody have requests?
@sweet_painted_lady of course I can do that for you! I love that idea! It's only fair since I've given you several requests (and you never disappoint!) although I'd take any requests at this point XD That sounds sweet. I'll have to study Live Aid a bit more. Makes sense, though! You know I'll lean more on the characters for Elton and Queen, but I might put some others, since Live Aid was not just about them XD
@BrianBadgerMay I get exactly what you mean *cries in having like 76 drafts of every oneshot book I own* :’) I do have a request though! Do you think you could do one set during live aid? With Queen and Elton in it for sure, but if you want to add anyone else from that day in there in bits you can! Like maybe Queen and Elton are really excited but as the day wears on maybe a few of them get nervous and Freddie is sort of giving them pep talks like Brian or John maybe but he’s kinda hiding that he’s nervous too and then maybe Elton sort of assured him that they’ll all be amazing and then Queen go on and smash it and afterwards Elton is all jealous and maybe runs off cause he’s nervous and like they all have to reassure him and then later Elton ends up doing great and they all just have a lovely chat about how well they all did and what a great day it’s been??? I know that’s a lot I hope it makes some sort of sense :’) Oh and I don’t mind where you go with this, but one thing I’d really love is if they joke that only David Bowie would be brave enough to go on after Queen cause I’ve always found that so cool of him and also kinda hilarious XD
I understand that everyone gets busy, and that's fine, of course. ...But wattpad has been so inactive lately it's strange and a bit sad
@Princessfun1 it really is a shame (isn't it a pity). Not what it used to be.
@The_Fairy_King Exactly. I know it's not /the best ever/ fanfiction platform, but when you've been on long enough, you grow attached
@paul_is_my_husband I feel the same way, and I've grown fond of wattpad for the friends I've made but they all seem to disappear :(
Presenting: the depressing version of Yellow Submarine, inspired by the original demo John sang. In the town where I was born No-one cared, no one cared On the day when I was born No-one cared - no one cared In the place where I was born No-one cared, no one cared We all live in a black submarine A charcoal submarine A depressing submarine.. We all live in a grey submarine A black submarine - a depressed submarine.
I really love it too. His voice is lovely on it, and the way the melody was on the "no one cared" when he goes slightly up is beautiful. And I do wonder that too.
@BrianBadgerMay I really love that version, the way he sings it is gorgeous, really wonder what it would've been like if Paul hadn't lightened the mood.
Okay, if you listen to "Don't Stop Me Now" on vinyl, try putting the speed from 33 to 45. It is kinda crazy and chaotic but also still great (crazy fast, too).
Happy birthday to Paul McCartney! He is incredible.
New book is out! It was written with @paul_is_my_husband ! Hope you guys enjoy it, it's rather long (we wrote thousands of words) XD https://www.wattpad.com/1381531235-heart-of-the-country-i-look-high-i-look-
@paul_is_my_husband oh, yes! 10,492 so far, and I have a lot to fill in for some bits It took me ages to get the first chapter out because I was trying to edit it in a way that made sense and figure out where to end it, haha.
@BrianBadgerMay ooh, awesome, you actually did it! Yes, we did write thousands of words, haha.
Happy birthday to Roger Taylor! An amazing musician.
