I just started Love Beyond the Game, and I really like the setup: a girl arriving in a small town after a major loss, everyone already watching, family secrets underneath, and then the Morgan brothers bringing that mix of charm, drama, and danger into her life. It feels like the kind of story where romance is not just romance, but also part of her learning who she is now.
In my own YA story, Lou also has a lot going on under the surface, but she hides it with humor and messy energy, while JJ is someone from her past who starts noticing the details she tries to cover up. From a writer’s perspective, do you think it’s more powerful when a love interest helps a girl feel seen right away, or when that trust builds slowly while she’s still figuring herself out?

I 100% feel it totally depends on how your character personalities are establishes, you mentioned that Lou hides with hat she is doing through with humor, in my perspective I fell a balance with both where JJ pushes her in the direction to feel seen where he lights the candle and with his push she slowly learn bit by bit to do it for herself.
