I am the author of 15 books on music (give or take a few), including Working Musicians, By the Time We Got to Woodstock, If You Like the Beatles, When Rock Was Young, The Rock Song Index, and three novels. My latest book is called A Friend in the Music Business: The ASCAP Story. I am a winner of the Dejur Award from CCNY for fiction and the Deems Taylor Award for non-fiction. I am the founding co-editor in chief of the magazine GUITAR for the Practicing Musician and a former record producer for Sony Music. I have just published books on Bob Dylan and America's Songs: Rock!
