Elena held out the interview packet toward him. “You don’t have to decide tonight. I just need official approval signatures before the athletics office starts harassing me tomorrow morning.”
Graham took the papers from her.
Most players delayed long-form features as long as possible during the season. Too many interviews turned into performance pieces pretending to be personality profiles. He had learned that lesson before college.
Still, he looked down at the paperwork only briefly before signing near the bottom page.
Elena blinked once. “That was unexpectedly fast.”
Graham handed the packet back. “You stayed.”
“What does that mean?”
He adjusted the strap against his shoulder again before answering. “Most people leave once they get what they need.”
The sentence settled between them quietly after that.
Not heavy.
Just noticeable.
Elena closed the folder again. “For the record, that sounds dangerously close to a real answer too.”
This time, Graham actually smiled a little.
Small enough that most people probably would not have noticed it unless they were already paying attention.
Elena noticed anyway.
