Theory, do you guys remember when Lucinda said she was a half witch? Well, this would mean one of Lady Irene's parents had to be a warlock or witch. Because in season one Emmylen said Lady Irene was one of the few people who had the will power to learn both magics and witchcraft. You could argue Lady Irene just had the will power to learn both but, wouldn't it make more sense that only full or half witches and warlocks could learn witchcraft?
