Regret: “Your face appears to disagree.”
Cassandra: “She'll understand eventually.”
Regret: “Will she?”
Cassandra: “She has to.”
Regret: “No, darling. She doesn't.”
Cassandra looks toward the door.
Cassandra: “I saw her today.”
Regret: “And?”
Cassandra: “She was laughing with him.”
Regret: “Her best friend?”
Cassandra: “Yes.”
Regret: “Did she laugh like that with you?”
Cassandra says nothing.
Regret: “That's what I thought.”
Cassandra: “I wanted her alive.”
Regret: “And she wanted you.”
Cassandra: “I couldn't give her both.”
Regret: “You don't know that.”
Cassandra's composure finally breaks.
Cassandra: “I couldn't watch them take her from me!”
Silence.
Regret: slowly lowers the popcorn.
Cassandra: “So I made her hate me. I made her afraid of me. I thought if she stopped trusting me, she'd stop putting herself in danger for me.”
Regret: “And now?”
Cassandra: “Now she doesn't trust me at all.”
Regret: “Congratulations.”
Cassandra: “Don't.”
Regret: “You wanted her safe.”
Cassandra: “Yes.”
Regret: “She is.”
Cassandra: “Yes.”
Regret: “And completely alone.”
Cassandra looks down.
Cassandra: “I was supposed to be her safe place.”
Regret: “You were.”
Cassandra: “I ruined it.”
Regret: offers her the popcorn bowl.
Cassandra: “I don't want popcorn.”
Regret: “I know. This is your suffering portion.”
Cassandra: “I hate you.”
Regret: “You'll be seeing a lot of me.”
