I have a question for other authors: how do you handle the following situation? My work on Wattpad and other platforms are first drafts - I write. I post. But as I continue to write, the story naturally evolves. Changes need to be made. My process is to write the first draft - just get it out of my head and onto paper before I tackle any edits.

I’m curious if others deal with this dilemma and how do you handle it. Do you just keep posting and once the first draft is completed, edit it and repost the whole edited story? Do you make author notes as you go along to explain scenes or situations that no longer serve the book or doesn’t fit? Do you simply not post until the entire draft is completed?

Thanks for any insights you share with me.

@lumtrexa How many books are you likely to write at one time? Do you find that your stories need a lot of rewriting? Not just grammatical stuff but plot stuff or major character stuff. Sometimes I’m writing before a character is fully developed and as time goes on - I realize that earlier chapters do not reflect them as well as they should. Thanks for your response.

@CLLeMay I usually rewrite the book by releasing chapters one at a time as I go about editing. In a perfect world, I'm sure it's much more efficient to re-write the whole book, and then, schedule chapter releases after. Sometimes, in the past, I have put an author's note at the bottom of a chapter stating that it is likely to be changed in the future. There's something about the idea of completing an entire book, before posting, that is stressful and doing the releases on the fly is just more 'doable' in my situation. It also allows me to work on more than one book at the same time.
