I'd like to add that for a limited time (a few weeks or so), I'll avail myself to any of the authors I judged if you have questions. *smile* I won't do a full developmental or line edit, but if there are things I brought up in my review that you want further clarification on, I'll be happy to answer those specific questions.

Insofar as the feedback loop? Yes, you'll be getting a copy of the review from the organizers. I'm usually up for general, but specifically focused, writing questions.

@CSBenson so should we wait for the review to be out first?

After a week of frantic reviewing, those whose work I was chosen to judge, the reviews have been submitted to the organizers. Good luck to each of you, and happy writing!

CSBenson

@scifi_lover4 It was a pleasure as well as a unique (and enjoyable) experience. While I've edited copious amounts of copy over the years, judging was quite a different experience.

For those whose stories I've been honored to be allowed to judge, here's a bit about me (also attached to the review I did of your work):

          About the Judge, C.S. Benson

C.S. Benson has 22 years of journalism writing/editing experience. Her work in regional magazines and local newspapers garnered several awards, particularly for layout and design, as well as for her newspaper editorial opinion and weekly column content. She is currently a full-time writer and occasional freelance editor.

She has over a decade of experience writing/editing avionics technical and training manuals for the US Department of Defense (Army).

In fiction, her grimdark adult fantasy debut novel, Rose of Sorrows, launched on Amazon in June 2025 and has garnered rave reviews. Her novel drafts of Ordinary and Bad Decisions are available on Wattpad and are slated for publication on Amazon in 2026, along with Lure of the Sea, a collection of inter-related novellas and story stories with a nautical fantasy theme set in the same world as Rose of Sorrows.

Hi! I was just curious, do you have any advice on how I can make my story better? I know you said that it needs a little bit of tweaking. Did you mean grammatical errors, or was there anything else I needed to fix? I really appreciate any help and constructive criticism, thank you! Also I’m really happy that you liked my story!

scifi_lover4

Oh ok! That sounds great thank you so much! :)

@scifi_lover4 I believe as part of the contest, you will be provided with my full notes. If not, after it's over, I'd be happy to share them with you.

@Zenderfall Time, however, is not free. At my age, I spend that coin miserly. lol

@CSBenson oh yeah, it is that! But it’s free! Lol

@Zenderfall Thanks for sharing lol "heart, passion, etc. etc." no focus on you know ... writing. This is a circle of back patting, not writers seriously looking to improve their writing skills.
