What are some tropes you wish you saw more of in published fiction and some you can do without? For me it’s love triangles I can live without those. I won’t mind seeing more secret identity tropes outside of superhero fiction.

What word count to readers prefer in long books on wattpad? I’ve been rereading Heart of stone to edit it and realized how long it is. The most popular Superman book on here takes 4 hours to read whereas mine is 12 hours.
          Should I shorten things?

@user7383017345 it’s still going to be long but scenes that are repetitive I’m cutting out

@Outback-1 yeah the spider thing was cut out. I might cut out Lana passed out in moving traffic but I need to guide Clark to Dr Whitney somehow if I cut it out

According to statistics on A03 I’ve written 493,760. It’s really got me thinking about original fiction. That’s almost 4 novels! But I love writing fanfiction and have fun. What do I do? Keep writing fanfiction or dabble in original?

To convert a fanfic to an original will be time-consuming and a lot of work, but it can truly pay off in the end if done properly. First, start off by making sure to copy your original doc/folder just in case you decide this isn't what you want to do. Work in the "copy" to preserve your original doc. Then, create names for your characters, and make sure each time they are mentioned, the names are changed. Then remove any signs of whatever your fanfic is about. This is where adding and rewriting some things will be required. Like I said, it is a lot of work, but it can be quite satisfying if done correctly.

@CalliopeWayne Do both! Fanfiction is a great way to train yourself to craft an original story.

How does everybody feel about female authors witting a story from a male POV in first person? I mean it’s one thing with Fanfiction, I’ve been dabbing with an originals urban fantasy book and a quit search on Amazon showed me most UF books with male leads were written by men. Makes me rethink my character

It’s one thing writing Clark. Readers have a certain expectation for Superman. It’s different with oc

My sense is that we need more female authors writing male POVs, all the female povs are starting to get get repetitive and the only male povs we get are dual povs, often romance-focused. Based on HoS and your other stories I’d say you’re more than qualified, but would be interesting to hear a male perspective

A friend just pointed out I’ve written 447,582 words with equals 4 books. That’s insane. I’m not sure how I feel about that. I should be using my energy on original fiction.
