Has anyone seen a recent increase in “dead books walking”/ books that has been abandoned by the author?

I find that often the whole account looks abandoned but the stories are marked as ongoing. I personally find this very frustrating. This is not to shame any authors, I just wish there was a solution for readers. Especially since filtering stories in wattpad is often not effective or accurate.

My personal suggestion is that a third option is introduced. Something like “incomplete” or “hiatus”. This could be an option for authors who have intentionally stopped working on a book, and an automatic tag added to stories that haven’t been updated for a time span. Something like a book hasn’t been updated in 6 months and so the story is auto-tagged as “incomplete”. This is so that readers are able to know the story is no longer ongoing, and it doesn’t have to show up when filtering by complete.

Abandoned projects are totally fine to read but it is disappointing to find a story/project that you love and then find out that it is abandoned. Having that knowledge going into it helps set expectations. This could also reduce the amount of spam authors get from people asking to update a story which is not ongoing but isn’t complete.

@Cami497 Oh yes, this is incredibly frustrating. I myself had to take a break from one of my books, and I have every intention of picking it back up later on. But I didn't just leave my readers hanging! The best I could do was put out a part that explained that I was taking a break. It's worked very well.
