I don't wanna be useless to them but ducking hell

I hate this. Today me and my principal talked about where I wanna go to study. I told him that I would like to study history and get a high-level English language diploma, and maybe go to the UK to study like university or something. The principal agrees and says that he likes my ambitions and thought about something like that for me as well. He told that historians with diplomas get good money. When I tell my parents about this they say that I rather become an engineer, informatician or lawyer or I am disowned. Fucking hell. Can't I choose what I want to be? I didn't say I wanna be an archaeologist and starve.
